Your area › Rent against the drive

Cheaper rent further out: is it worth the drive?

Rent is often lower further from the city, but you drive more to get anywhere. Pick two suburbs and how far you'd drive each week from each one. We'll add up rent and fuel for both, so you can see which one really costs less.

Count every trip in a normal week: work, school, shops and sport. Not sure what your car uses? It's on the fuel sticker on the windscreen of newer cars, or in the owner's manual. 10 litres per 100 km is a fair guess for a family car.
