How it works
Each place's figure is the median weekly rent of new leases in the latest quarter, for the kind of home you pick, as each state published it. In Tasmania we work it out from the bond records. Half of new tenants paid less than the median and half paid more. So a place just over your budget may still have homes you can afford.
Melbourne, Perth, Canberra and Darwin aren't included. Victoria, Western Australia, the ACT and the Northern Territory don't publish current bond figures.
